Lucchese Boot Company

Lucchese
Did you know?

Lucchese is widely regarded as one of the premier American boot makers and a benchmark for quality exotic leather work. Their boots are a staple of high-end collections.

History

Lucchese was founded in 1883 by Salvatore "Sam" Lucchese, an Italian immigrant who settled in San Antonio, Texas. Sam had learned boot making in the U.S. Army and quickly built a reputation for superior craftsmanship. The company remained family-owned for over a century, passing through multiple generations of the Lucchese family before eventually changing hands. Throughout its history, Lucchese has maintained a commitment to handcrafted construction and premium materials that sets it apart from mass-market producers.

The brand gained national prominence in the mid-20th century, becoming a favorite of politicians, entertainers, and serious collectors. Lucchese boots have been worn by U.S. presidents and Hollywood stars alike. Today, the company operates out of El Paso, Texas, where skilled artisans continue to produce boots using many of the same techniques Sam Lucchese employed over 140 years ago.

Product Lines

Lucchese organizes its offerings into several distinct lines. The Classics line represents the pinnacle of the brand, featuring full hand-lasted construction with premium Alligator belly, Full Quill Ostrich, and other top-tier exotics. The 1883 line offers a more accessible price point while still using quality materials and Lucchese construction standards. The Bootmaker line sits between Classics and 1883, offering hand-lasted boots with excellent leather selection at a mid-range price.

Identification Tips

Vintage Lucchese boots can be identified by several key markers. Look for the signature "L" brand on the outsole and the Lucchese name stamped inside the shaft. Pre-1980s boots often feature a "Since 1883" marking. The pull straps on classic Lucchese boots typically have the company name woven or embossed into the leather. Construction quality is a hallmark — examine the welt stitching, which should be tight, even, and consistent. Lucchese uses a lemon wood peg construction in their premium lines, a traditional technique rarely seen in modern production boots.
